Service Description: Judicial tribunal that provides compensation to victims of violent crime in Ontario as defined under the Canadian Criminal Code * dependents of deceased crime victims or people injured as a result of a crime may also be eligible

Awards - Compensation may be awarded for expenses actually and reasonably incurred resulting from the victim's injury or death * emergency expenses resulting from a personal injury or death, such as medical expenses, funeral expenses and interim counselling * loss of wages as a consequence of the total or partial disability affecting the victim's capacity to work; financial loss to the dependents of a deceased victim * pain and suffering * maintenance of a child born as a result of a sexual assault

Crimes Covered - May include assaults (physical and sexual), murder, attempted murder, poisoning, arson

Crimes Not Covered - Property offences, motor vehicle offences with the exception of assault with a vehicle (ie trying deliberately to run someone over), accidental deaths or injuries, workplace accidents and others

Fees: No processing fees
Application: Application form available by phone, mail, fax or on website * must be received within two years of the injury/death of victim or after two-years with approval of the board
Documentation - Supporting documents may be required such as medical records or expenses
Eligibility - Population(s) Served: Residents of Ontario 18 years and older * residents under 18 years must be represented by a parent, guardian or legal representative
