Service Description: The permanent Household Hazardous Waste Depot at the Trail Waste Facility is now closed. Residents can dispose of their Household Hazardous Waste at any of the one-day Household Hazardous Waste Depots. Call or visit the website for time, date and location.

Products accepted: Waste such as left-over oil based paints, pesticides, turpentine, aerosol containers, fire extinguishers, pool chemicals, insecticides, herbicides, fungicides, stains, wood preservatives, furniture stripper, barbecue starter, oven cleaner, window cleaner, disinfectants, used needles and syringes * Radioactive waste and explosive materials are not accepted

Flares, bullets, explosive devices, ammunitions, firearms and fireworks can cause severe injury or death, and should not be thrown in your garbage. To dispose of these materials safely, contact Ottawa Police at 613-230-6211. Police will come and make sure all necessary safety precautions have been taken to dispose of these items.

Take it Back!: More than 700 Ottawa retailers take back over 100 different products for recycling, reuse and/or proper disposal. These products include hazardous and household wastes such as expired medication, used needles and syringes, car batteries, motor oil, dry cleaner bags, clothes hangers, computers and components. For a complete list, call 3-1-1 or visit the website.

Fees: None - free for residential hazardous waste * residents of the City of Ottawa only
Application: Deliver waste contained and labelled.
Eligibility - Population(s) Served: Household hazardous Waste depots are only for residential waste. Only household quantities accepted (e.g. 25 paint cans or less). No commercial waste will be accepted. Depot staff make the final determination of types and quantities of waste accepted for disposal. For questionable materials and quantities please call the City in advance at 3-1-1.
