Service Description: Literacy and Basic Skills
Literacy, numeracy and essential skills services to assist in transitioning to employment, apprenticeship, secondary-school credit, post-secondary education or
independence * support in clarifying upgrading goals and developing a training plan to achieve them

Also academic upgrading that helps individuals develop the necessary skills for entry into post-secondary education, apprenticeship training or employment

Provides free one-on-one tutoring to adults who want to improve their reading and writing, everyday math, or basic computer skills. This program helps adult learners meet their individual goals such as working toward employment, educational upgrading, and mastering practical life skills.

Volunteer tutors meet with their learners once a week for two hours at a mutually convenient time and place such as a branch of the Ottawa Public Library. Volunteer tutors are required to attend an orientation session and participate in training workshops several times a year. Learning materials and ongoing tutoring support provided.

Eligibility - Population(s) Served: Primarily serves adult learners wanting to improve their literacy and numeracy skills to achieve goals of further education and training, employment or increased independence * must have facility in English and literacy skills below Grade 12 of the Ontario Curriculum
