Service Description: Assists the residents in preventing accidents and in protecting themselves and others from accidental death, injury and the destruction of property resulting from accidents and collisions
  • Specific programs: Adult crossing guards * Children Safety Programs * Motorcycle Training Program * Bicycle Safety Awareness
  • Child safety programs include: Pedestrian Awareness * Bicycle Safety * Home Alone * Street proofing * Babysitting * Bullying Proofing * Internet Safety * Fire Safety * School Traffic Safety * Summer Camp
  • SMART Summer Safety Camp: A fun day camp that provides a variety of safety lessons over a full week, the focus is on healthy living, healthy choices and safety. Subsidies are available.
  • Home Alone: Program developed by the Canadian Safety Council for children 9 to 12 years old to learn home safety when not supervised by an adult, and how to handle callers at the door and on the telephone * they will be taught when and how to call emergency numbers * uses role playing and real practice phones
  • Street-proofing: Program for children 9 to 12 years old to learn how to recognize and avoid or escape from dangerous situations * various topics (de-stereotyping strangers * three "Keep yourself safe" questions * some Internet safety * lots of discussion and practical activities

All programs can be delivered off site through community centres and special groups
