At Family Services Ottawa (FSO), our vision is a community where families and individuals are strong and resilient and have the supports that they need to live healthy, fulfilling lives. We welcome families and individuals in all of their forms, provide a wide range of accessible educational and supportive programs and counselling services to enhance mental health, collaborate with others who share our vision and advocate for changes that will make everyone’s lives better.

The Around the Rainbow (ATR) program works to support and create safer spaces for LGBTTQ+ families and individuals. We do this through advocacy, community based education and training and family events and programs. Our agency also provides counselling for LGBTTQ+ identified individuals who wish to work with an LGBTTQ+ identified and out counsellor.

The Transcend Youth Group is a monthly drop in group for gender-diverse youth aged 11 – 17.


Position:  Assistant to Transcend Youth Group Facilitator, Around the Rainbow

Region:  Ottawa

Description:  

The Assistant to the Transcend Youth Group Facilitator supports the group facilitator in delivering the Transcend Youth Group, primarily through the provision of administrative support. Activities include room booking and set-up, arranging for/providing refreshments, supporting the group facilitator and assisting the group members as needed with set-up and implementation of recreational type activities including art projects, button making, etc.

Qualifications

  • Some post-secondary training or education in social work, youth programming, education or a related field
  • Two (2) years related experience with the trans, two-spirit, intersex and gender diverse communities
  • Experience working with groups and youth
  • Experience working with diverse populations based on (but not limited to) culture, race, socio-economic status, gender identity, gender expression, gender and sexual orientation
  • Strong knowledge gender identity and gender expression particularly as they relate to youth
  • Knowledge of effective group activities
  • Knowledge of community resources related to trans, gender diverse and gender fluid youth
  • Skilled at building rapport with groups
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Skilled at maintaining accurate records
  • Skilled at youth programming
  • Ability to work as a collaborative team player
  • Ability to assess, intervene and defuse potential conflicts
  • Ability to work well under supervision
  • Strong English language skills

Terms and Conditions
  • Must pass a vulnerable sector check
  • Some evening and weekend work is required
  • Some local travel is required



Salary:  hourly rate, pro-rated based on annual salary rang

Terms of Employment:  Temporary, contract, maximum 4 hours/month
